Oracle Layoffs: 546 Workers Hit, Most Aged Over 40

Oracle’s latest layoffs reached software developers, engineers, managers and data centre staff in its cloud infrastructure business. A document reviewed by Business Insider lists 546 affected employees and their ages, offering a view of the cuts as Oracle expands its AI infrastructure.

The document covers employees in Oracle’s America Cloud Infrastructure organisation who were laid off and eligible for severance. The 546 names account for about 7.6% of the 7,185 employees listed for that organisation. Oracle said it provided the age information to comply with federal age discrimination laws.

Most of the affected employees were over 40, according to Business Insider’s analysis. About 16% were at least 60. The document does not explain how Oracle selected employees for layoffs, so the age figures alone do not establish why any individual lost their job.

The list also has limits. Business Insider could not determine whether it includes every person laid off from the cloud infrastructure organisation. Oracle has not disclosed the total number of workers affected by its latest round of job cuts. The 546 employees therefore represent the document’s count, rather than a company-wide layoff total.

Software developers made up about 17% of the jobs on the list. Software Developer III had the highest count for a single job title, with 57 employees affected. Program Manager IV and Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer were also among the roles with the most departures.

Management roles accounted for another large share. Business Insider counted 128 eliminated positions with ‘manager’ in the title, or about 23% of the listed cuts.
