The Straw Hat Pirates are the protagonists of One Piece and the group that we've been following ever since the beginning of the story on July 18, 1997, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 34. Nearly 30 years later, One Piece is now awaiting the release of chapter 1197 on November 1, 2026, and the importance of the Straw Hat Pirates keeps growing.
While the Straw Hat crew has enjoyed a certain dynamic up until this point, One Piece chapter 1196's release changed the game completely. For the very first time, One Piece is shuffling the hierarchy of the Straw Hat Pirates and establishing a new order by giving Sanji the Color of the Supreme King. With the release of the latest chapter, Eiichiro Oda has once again equated Zoro and Sanji, reaffirming their new hierarchy status for the Straw Hat Pirates, with Luffy at the top and his wings right below him. As has been hinted for quite a while now, there is no longer a disparity in terms of power between Luffy's wings, and they are set to be equal from here on out.
For the longest time, One Piece fans believed that the power hierarchy within the Straw Hat Pirates saw Luffy at the top, with Zoro right under him. All the other members of the Straw Hat Pirates, such as Sanji and Jinbe, came after Zoro, who were then followed by the remainder of the Straw Hats, such as Nico Robin, Nami, and Usopp, among others.
