Literally one day before it was set to launch into early access, the pixel art action RPG Emberville has been delayed so the development team can incorporate feedback from the game's recent Steam Next Fest demo. Instead of rolling out on October 27 as planned, Emberville is now set to launch on January 7.
"Many of you have played our Steam Next Fest demo and shared your feedback. This means a great deal to us, and we immediately started planning more improvements," developer Cygnus Cross wrote in a Steam update. "However, some of the improvements we want to make are systems changes that can't be done quickly. Reworking bow combat, for example, would take more time than we had prior to our Early Access release even though the team is working around the clock.
"After carefully considering our options, we have decided to move the release date and include some essential improvements in the Early Access launch build."
The last minute delay is particularly surprising given that Cygnus Cross reaffirmed the October 27 release just a week ago, with a "what to expect" post for potential players. That included information on Emberville's planned first early access update, which was meant to include the final boss of the first biome, controller support improvements, additional languages, and more, all within a month after the game's launch.
There's no overlooking the looming specter of Grand Theft Auto 6 , which launches for consoles on November 19—an arrival that's caused no small amount of turmoil for other game releases in its proximity.
