Nintendo Switch Online has come a long way from its original selection of classic games, with the subscription service now offering hundreds of classics across several Nintendo consoles and expanding with three more games on October 27. While major franchises like Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Metroid naturally get plenty of attention, some of the more interesting Nintendo Switch Online additions are games that never received the same level of recognition.
The original Game Boy library is included with a standard Nintendo Switch Online membership, so subscribers don't need the more expensive Expansion Pack to access it. The collection is also playable on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, with modern conveniences such as save states making it easier to revisit games from decades ago. Nintendo has continued adding new titles throughout 2026, and three more classic Game Boy games are on the schedule for October 27.
The first new game is Avenging Spirit, a 1992 action-platformer game with a unique premise. Players control the ghost of a murdered man who returns to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend, but instead of fighting enemies directly, he can possess their bodies. Different enemies have different weapons, attacks, and abilities, allowing players to switch between characters as they progress through the game. Originally released in arcades before coming to Game Boy, Avenging Spirit stands out for its possession mechanic, which gives players several ways to approach the same stages and enemies.
