Battlefield has always been known for its destructible environments, and everyone who has played any of the games in the franchise at least once knows that there's no better feeling than destroying an entire wall to achieve your goals. Maybe it's the fact that we get to experience something that most of us will never get to do in real life that really gets us. Or maybe it's how we use destruction as part of our strategy. In any case, there's no reason why single-player games can't take advantage of that feature as well.
In fact, the new Steam FPS Void/Breaker uses exactly this mechanic but gives it an unexpected twist. Void/Breaker was developed by Stubby Games as a single-player roguelite FPS with destructible environments, combat, and procedurally generated encounters, and it's currently set to leave Steam Early Access on November 4, 2026. Although it's true that destroying stuff is not something revolutionary on its own, combining it with roguelite mechanics definitely makes it a lot more special and interesting.
Some FPS games promised to revolutionize the genre, only to discover that their ambitious ideas were much harder to execute than expected.
Most people will probably agree that one of the best things about Battlefield 6 is that the game allows approaching every battle in an unconventional way. To give an example, instead of trying to defeat enemies while hiding behind cover, players can simply destroy the wall, open new lines of sight, or create alternative routes. In other words, environmental destruction is actually an important tactical tool in multiplayer matches, and it definitely plays a big role in outsmarting your opponents.
