A new 16-player open-world game on Steam called Moon Sweepers has surpassed 50,000 concurrent players shortly after launch, making it one of October 2026's most successful releases. Two-person indie studio DragDrop Games developed Moon Sweepers, which has received mostly positive reviews from Steam users at the time of writing.
Moon Sweepers could fit into Steam's popular cleaning-game subgenre, led by games like PowerWash Simulator. However, DragDrop Games' title adds a few interesting twists to the formula, making it a great fit for automation games too.
A brand-new open-world RPG releases its first gameplay trailer, sparking excitement among fans of the genre with its visuals and unique premise.
Up to 16 players can join the Lunar Surface Department and take on the seemingly impossible mission of cleaning the entire moon. Each player starts with a toothbrush and must collect moon dust bit by bit to upgrade their gear. Like most automation games, Moon Sweepers also lets players buy machines to help with parts of the job, including autonomous robots that collect dust on their own. However, one feature that sets Moon Sweepers apart from the competition is its massive scale.
Players must quite literally clean the entire moon , a massive map that can take tens of hours to sweep. The mission can begin anywhere on the map, but staying close to a base lets players sell collected dust and earn money. Moon Sweepers is also a base-building game that lets players create new operation headquarters across the moon and set up automated dust-collection lines in different places.
