New Minecraft-Inspired Open-World Sandbox Game Officially Unveiled

Direland is a solo-developed open-world sandbox survival game that looks like an isometric version of Minecraft or a 3D take on Terraria. Developed by Tokyo-based creator Kaijiuuuuu, Direland is still in early development, but its new gameplay trailer has caught Minecraft fans' attention with its voxel world-building and biomes.

Some have even called Direland "what Minecraft Dungeons should have been." However, the developer has said on Twitter that they haven't played Minecraft Dungeons and are aiming to offer a more action-oriented sandbox experience inspired by several other IPs, including Minecraft, Core Keeper, Animal Crossing, and Monster Hunter.

A brand-new Steam release takes the best from Minecraft's sandbox freedom and Stardew Valley's various activities.

One notable gameplay feature in Direland is its responsive terrain. Players can shape the terrain to their liking, and enemies can change it too. As seen in the trailers, bosses can smash areas and destroy blocks, creating new topography. Explaining how Direland's voxel blocks will work, developer Kaijiuuuuu said, "Terrain can be broken into blocks and stacked freely, but you cannot create caves. Think of it like Minecraft where everything is made of sand blocks."

Trailers have also revealed that Direland will feature side activities like farming and base-building. The developer has added various furniture pieces and structures to help players build their bases, much like in other Minecraft -like games . However, since Direland will focus more on action, it might not offer extensive building options.
