The Akatsuki was an extremely powerful and dangerous group composed almost entirely of S-rank rogue ninjas. In fact, most of its members are considered among the strongest ninjas in the Naruto franchise. The Akatsuki's ultimate goal was to collect the Tailed Beasts and take over the world to end conflict, and its members killed some powerful characters along the way.

Many of the strongest Naruto characters that the Akatsuki killed were Jinchuriki who wielded the power of a Tailed Beast, and they all died after their Tailed Beasts were extracted. They also killed some elite Jonin-level shinobi. Most of the Akatsuki's members were Kage-level, so it is not surprising that some members killed an actual Kage and a legendary ninja who was worthy of becoming Hokage.
