When the next Metroid game releases, only those that have a Switch 2 console will be able to play it. Metroid is one of Nintendo's longest-running and most consistently-great franchises. While there have been some weaker entries released over the years, the vast majority of Metroid games have been critically-acclaimed and considered some of the best in their genre.
Many of the best Metroid games are readily available to play on the Switch 1. Metroid fans can play the NES and Game Boy classics, as well as the beloved GBA-era games. Metroid Prime received a stunning remaster on Switch 1, and the latest Metroid Prime game, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, also released for Nintendo's older console. Metroid Dread is arguably the star of the franchise's Switch 1 output, marking an incredible return for 2D Metroid in one of Samus Aran's most exciting and action-packed adventures yet. Unfortunately for Metroid fans that have yet to upgrade to the Switch 2, though, the next game in the series will not be released for the OG Switch.
One retailer cancels pre-orders for the special edition of Metroid Ravenous on Nintendo Switch 2, causing frustration for fans.
Since Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was a cross-gen release that saw it launch for both the Switch 1 and the Switch 2, it's reasonable that some may have expected the same to hold true for Metroid Ravenous . After all, Metroid Ravenous is a 2D game and could probably run on the OG Switch. However, with Nintendo largely moving on from the Switch 1, the decision was made to make Metroid Ravenous a Switch 2 exclusive.
