Meta introduced Ray-Ban Meta Audio, its first camera-free AI glasses, at Meta Connect 2026. The USD 349 glasses focus on audio, calls and Meta AI instead of image capture. Meta launched the glasses on September 23 at its Menlo Park event. The camera-free design responds to growing privacy concerns surrounding wearable cameras.
The Ray-Ban Meta Audio glasses use speakers and microphones for hands-free features without visual recording. Meta developed the glasses with EssilorLuxottica and positioned them as an audio-first AI wearable. Pre-orders started September 23, and shipping begins October 13, 2026.
The glasses weigh 43 grams and offer up to 12 hours of battery life per charge. Meta says the charging case adds another 48 hours. The glasses support music, podcasts, calls, and hands-free conversations with Meta AI.
Meta also brings its Muse personal AI agent to the new glasses lineup. Muse can support tasks such as answering questions and handling everyday activities. The approach keeps AI assistance available without adding a camera to the frame.
Ray-Ban Meta Audio comes in Clubmaster and Burbank designs with 23 color and lens combinations. Both styles support a wide range of prescription options, giving the camera-free AI glasses a conventional eyewear appearance.
Privacy forms a major part of the product's positioning as camera-equipped smart glasses face wider scrutiny. Critics have raised concerns about recording people nearby without clear consent. Meta's existing models use a recording indicator light, which signals when cameras capture content.
Meta's AI product vice president Vishal Shah said the recording indicator remains important for privacy.
