According to a recent statement from an Arkane Lyon union representative, Marvel's Blade is nearing the end of its production, but it might never make its way into players' hands. Following Xbox's decision to sell off Arkane Lyon in July, the Marvel's Blade developer now only has until November 13 to find a financial partner.
On July 6, Xbox announced its plans to lay off 3,200 employees by the end of the fiscal year. These plans included the immediate closure or divestiture of five acquired studios, with Ninja Theory, Compulsion Games, Double Fine, Undead Labs, and Arkane Lyon all in the firing line. Due to France's Florange Law, which requires large companies to at least seek a buyer for a subsidiary before attempting to close it or conduct mass layoffs, Arkane Lyon was able to enter talks with the French government and work with them to try and find a way to survive. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like those talks have gone too well.
Clayface would be a unique movie in the superhero genre, if it wasn't for a certain Marvel film that came out two decades ago.
A new report from French outlet Le Monde provides some new insight into Arkane Lyon's current situation, courtesy of a union representative working with the studio to find a new buyer. According to Le Monde, the consultation period for Arkane will officially end on November 13. If a buyer for the studio hasn't been found, a total of 217 employees could be at risk of losing their jobs, and the studio could face complete closure.
