Vision has risen up to become one of the MCU's most important characters. Since his debut in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, Paul Bettany's superhero synthezoid has undergone one of the fullest character arcs in the franchise, and all those twists and turns have come to a head in VisionQuest. The high-concept Disney Plus show has followed Vision as he not just reunites with long-lost son, Tommy, but also puts together the broken pieces of his digital psyche.
What's more, VisionQuest has also revealed new layers to Vision's origins, revealing that his already complex backstory — he's a blend of JARVIS, Ultron, and the input of Tony Stark and Bruce Banner — is even more complicated than fans realized. In Episode 7, titled "Immolation," the character discovers that he's not as unique as he thought. It turns out Vision's status as the MCU's first robot superhero isn't quite so accurate, after all.
VisionQuest Season 1 premieres in just a few days' time, kicking off another chapter in the ever-evolving Marvel Cinematic Universe.
VisionQuest has really changed the rules of how AI works in the MCU. Up until now, Tony Stark has been depicted as the pioneer in this field, but the series reveals that he actually just acquired the work of the late Jo Carrington (since reborn as AI villain Jocasta ). "Immolation" confirms that Carrington, in turn, based her code on the breakthroughs of Dr. Phineas Horton, a genius inventor from the 1940s. , AKA the Synthetic Man.
