Magic: The Gathering Officially Gets 2 Brand-New Surprise Releases

Magic: The Gathering is getting two surprise releases tying into one of the best sets of the year, and they're launching soon. Between three in-multiverse sets and four Universes Beyond sets, Wizards of the Coast has had a busy year in 2026 and is now preparing for more releases in 2027. Among the sets officially revealed for Magic: The Gathering in 2027 are three in-multiverse releases and one Marvel UB set to continue WotC's collab with the comic book company.

Interestingly, this is the first-ever original UB set for Magic: The Gathering, as it features a setting made by WotC and Marvel combined, with Magic in mind first and foremost. It does feature some iconic Marvel characters, but they are depicted in a Magic-first light in terms of art style, general aesthetics, and even in-game abilities. Although MTG's Universes Beyond sets tend to do well overall thanks to the hype from fans of the IP, in-multiverse sets can also do very well in terms of sales. Lorwyn and Strixhaven in 2026 are great examples of this, and Reality Fracture is up there too. Now, Reality Fracture is also getting two major new releases.

Magic: The Gathering has some of the rarest, most valuable cards of any TCG, and collectors are still tripping over themselves to find these pieces.

Wizards of the Coast has revealed brand-new Magic: The Gathering releases themed around the Reality Fracture set, which came out on October 2. The first is called Strange School, a manga-themed drop featuring five cards that serves as a follow-up to the same Secret Lair drop dedicated to Secrets of Strixhaven.
