KPop Demon Hunters officially joined the Criterion Collection earlier this week, and now the new release is already 50% off.
The quick discount has nothing to do with the movie’s popularity — The Criterion Collection just launched its November sale, which is essentially the distributor’s big Black Friday blowout. Through the end of November, every single Criterion release that has already come to market gets a 50% mark-down.
KPop Demon Hunters is the Collection's most recent release, having dropped this past Tuesday, and thus narrowly makes the cut-off to be a part of this year’s sale. It goes without saying these are the lowest prices yet on all three editions, which are still the only home entertainment release for the massive Netflix movie.
Pricing-wise, the 4K has dropped to $24.99 (from $49.95), the Blu-ray is down to $19.99 (from $39.99), and the DVD is $14.99 (down from $29.99). This 50% discount math applies to the entire Criterion Collection through Barnes & Noble, which offers relatively standard pricing across hundreds of DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K editions.
The timing likely isn't a coincidence, as Criterion often has a big release that just narrowly makes the sale cut-off. Ahead of the most recent July sale, it was the $400 Kubrick Collection, so at least this 'headliner,' if you will, is already more affordable.
As always, the Criterion edition has its own cover art. In this case, we get new artwork from Ami Thompson , who also worked on the film as a character designer.
