Konami President Comments on AI in Gaming

Konami president Hideki Hayakawa has shared his stance on the rise of generative AI in gaming, stating that the new technology will not drastically impact the quality of games. AI has been one of the biggest hot-button issues not just for Konami, but the industry as a whole.

The rapid adoption of AI within the game industry has been a controversial trend for fans. Many have been staunchly opposed to AI being used within game development, feeling that the widespread rise of generative AI takes jobs away from artists and other creatives. Some developers have adopted AI only for back-end code development, using artificial intelligence to help with coding games, and even Epic Games revealing it had vibe-coded a new Epic Games Launcher update using AI. Now, an executive at one of the gaming industry's leading executives is sharing his thoughts about the use of AI.

Epic Games' in-development Disney-themed shooter has reportedly been delayed, and now the team could be using AI to get it finished.

Konami Digital Entertainment president Hideki Hayakawa shared his stance on AI during a recent business report from the company. Translated by Automaton , Hayakawa said that the rise of generative AI will likely not make a major impact on the game industry, commenting that the barrier to entry has been lowered by "generic game engines" and the rise of user-generated game content . The Konami president stressed "humans and creators" as some of the most important factors in creating quality games, with the human element "not easily replaced" when discussing game ideation.
