When Gege Akutami began Jujutsu Kaisen in 2018, he established the main trio of Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, and Nobara Kugisaki to lead from the front. At the helm of this group was Gojo Satoru, the strongest modern sorcerer and the man who ended up becoming the face of the entire franchise. Regardless, Jujutsu Kaisen had an incredibly exciting main cast of characters.
The trio that was established to lead from the front was certainly beloved by the fans, and while Megumi and Nobara ended up receiving the short end of the stick in the story, they did make a comeback near the end and paved the way for Yuji to finally defeat Ryomen Sukuna. Now, however, Gege Akutami, the creator of the series, has permanently ended this new trio in the sequel series, Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo.
The trio of Yuji, Nobara, and Megumi is severely underutilized in Jujutsu Kaisen. They fought against some formidable foes together, but this trio was officially broken in the series when Nobara was presumed to have died in the Shibuya Incident arc. She was only brought back near the end of the series and confirmed to have survived this ordeal. Similarly, Megumi Fushiguro, who stuck with Yuji for a significant portion of the Culling Game, was eventually taken over by none other than Sukuna and stood as the primary antagonist from there onwards.
As such, this trio barely had any time together fighting against strong enemies, which was truly a disappointment. Fans had hoped that the sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen would show them fighting together, given that they were back once again, but Gege Akutami instead decided to break the trio apart forever once again, shattering fan expectations.
