Joseph Joon “Jojopyun” Pyun has extended his contract with Movistar KOI through 2027, ruling out an immediate return to North America and closing the book on one of the LEC offseason’s biggest open questions. The Canadian mid laner joined the Spanish organization in December 2024 and will now stay put for at least one more year, according to Strafe Esports.
The timing matters. Movistar KOI spent much of 2026 fielding rumors that Jojopyun could bolt back to the LCS after a rocky year, and this extension shuts that door for now. The team’s recent form clearly played a part in keeping him around, since nobody re-signs with a sinking ship.
Movistar KOI’s official announcement leaned into the sentimental angle, framing the extension as part of a longer story still being written with Jojopyun and the club’s fanbase. It’s the kind of messaging you’d expect from an org that just clawed its way out of a genuine crisis season.
2026 wasn’t kind to MKOI for most of the year, but the lower bracket run they pulled off in the LEC Summer Split playoffs was the stuff of highlight reels. The team knocked out Team Vitality and NAVI before beating Karmine Corp on home soil in France, a result that alone should have silenced the doubters.
That run carried Movistar KOI all the way to the LEC Summer Split Grand Final, where G2 Esports ultimately got the better of them. The silver medal still came with a golden ticket: a confirmed spot at the 2026 League of Legends World Championship, set to take place in North America this year, giving Jojopyun a shot at his third career Worlds appearance in front of a home continent crowd.
