James Gunn’s Next Superman Movie Has Officially Wrapped up Filming

Fans of James Gunn's DC Universe movies rejoice: the director's next big blockbuster, Superman: Man of Tomorrow, has just wrapped up filming. The writer and director shared the news on Threads, mentioning his "immense gratitude" to the cast and crew.

Superman: Man of Tomorrow is the sequel to Gunn's 2025 Superman, starring David Corenswet as the titular Big Blue Boy Scout, and Nicholas Hoult as childish billionaire with armchair quarterback obsessions, Lex Luthor. The movie was meant to kickstart a new era of superhero blockbusters for DC Comics and Warner Bros. While Superman did quite well at the box office, 2026's Supergirl failed to clear the bar set by Gunn's film, performing much worse with critics and moviegoers.

"That's a wrap on principal photography for Man of Tomorrow," Gunn wrote in his post. "Truly a joyful experience and I have immense gratitude to my cast and crew. First photo: Nicholas Hoult jumped in the lake after last shot. Second photo: The brain trust (except Brian) around video village during the whole shoot. They make making movies fun."

Filming for Man of Tomorrow did not take long, as Gunn first indicated that he had started shooting with an Instagram post on April 20. The movie will see Superman and Luthor teaming up to face a new threat, likely the alien super-AI Brainiac (Lars Eidinger), who has a long history with the smug billionaire and with Superman's cousin, Kara (Milly Alcock). Supergirl will be returning in Man of Tomorrow .
