NetherRealm co-founder Ed Boon claims that the recent Injustice 3 rumors are “false."
Boon initially quoted an X post claiming that NetherRealm is “partnering with Insomniac to deliver the first AAAA fighting game” (which was from a satire account), writing, “100% false.” He then asked fans for the “next rumor” to debunk.
One fan took him up on that offer, stating: “NRS is testing IJ3 right now. NRS is testing MK13 right now. NRS is testing MK9 right now." Boon responded, “All false.”
Some have taken this to mean that Injustice 3 is not happening, and that previous reports were mistaken. But that isn’t necessarily true. Ed Boon could always be trolling, but it could also mean that NetherRealm’s new project is a wholly original DC fighting game, rather than a sequel, or even simpler: testing has wrapped in Culver City.
Supporting this, a stunt worker’s resume went viral just a few days ago after they listed Injustice 3 on their portfolio, specifically working on motion capture for “Batwoman” and “Supergirl”. However, that doesn’t mean the game will strictly be called Injustice 3—after all, Mortal Kombat 1 leaked under the working title Mortal Kombat 12.
In fact, leakers have hinted at as much. Earlier this year, reputable leaker MultiverSusie teased that “it’s time we move on from the Injustice branding.”
That has led to speculation that NetherRealm could ditch the familiar evil-Superman setup in favor of something new, or at least continue with the universe under a different name.
