Even as we inch closer to turning the page on 2026, The Pokemon Company isn’t ready to put a bow on its Pokemon 30th anniversary festivities just yet. Pokemon Night Out represents yet another celebration of the Pokemon brand, albeit in an unexpected form. GameRant was in attendance at the first leg of Pokemon Night Out, and admittedly, I was unsure what I was walking into. But by the end of the night, I left with a little ringing in my ears and a big smile on my face.
Pokemon chose Southern California’s Intuit Dome as its host for the US leg of the EDM tour. Home to the Los Angeles Clippers, the Intuit Dome is a state-of-the-art, brand-new stadium, with an intimidating, vertically oriented section dubbed “The Wall,” where fans look to distract free throw shooters with as much visual distraction as possible. For Pokemon Night Out, the stage sits in front of that wall, but what happens on that stage over the course of roughly 2 hours is just as much an assault on the senses.
Pokemon Night Out is billed as a fusion between electronic dance music (EDM) and Pokemon. But what exactly does that mean? With Marshmello as the headliner and Alison Wonderland as his opening act, the big-name quotient is sufficiently filled, but what type of show would they deliver?
As it turns out, Pokemon Night Out is an EDM show with Pokemon visuals. If you’re not a fan of that genre of music or you’re not at least casually familiar with Marshmello — maybe you've seen Marshmello in Fortnite — then you might not be as satisfied as someone whose Venn diagrams for Pokemon and EDM more overtly overlap.
