It's no secret that the Helldivers 2 community is fluent in the language of review bombing. Arrowhead may be brilliant at orchestrating a war campaign for players to partake in like a disembodied dungeon master, but the community is equally capable of waging war on the store page, with today marking the 7th review bomb campaign in just two years.
Devoid of Liberty: 7.2.0 launched on October 20, and the reason players have retaliated with an orbital strike of 2,365 negative reviews is because the update replaces GameGuard with Easy Anti-Cheat. It's the scourge of many a community due to the performance tax it demands, frequent crashes it often causes, and the kernel-level access it requires of your PC, but on top of all that, it has broken several of Helldivers 2's best and most popular mods without warning.
As reported by FRVR, one of the best Helldivers 2 mods, Custom Galactic War, "is down for the foreseeable future." The team posted a statement to social media confirming that "EAC has effectively put a stop on CGW for the time being." They're exploring other options, like supporting the mod for previous builds of the game or developing an EAC bypass for each update, but as it stands, the mod is no longer compatible with Helldivers 2.
Take a quick glance at the negative reviews, and you'll see again and again that the sudden axe to mod support is a huge grievance, and it's hard to blame players when the community has picked up the slack with optimization, quality-of-life features, and bug fixes for years, all of which is now broken.
