Ghostwire: Tokyo joins GOG Preservation Program, which means you don't have to deal with Bethesda.NET anymore

Ghostwire: Tokyo, Tango Gameworks' spooky, neon-drenched action-adventure game, is now officially a good old game. Granted, it's not that old, but 'good' seems about right given that contributing writer Imogen Mellor scored it a 72 in her review. But what I mean is that it's joined GOG's Preservation Program.

If you're wondering why a game from 2022 would need to be preserved already, well, it kind of doesn't. You may be thinking the game is finally free from its seemingly arbitrary implementation of Denuvo, but that was actually removed shortly after it was added. What this release does is remove Bethesda.NET integration (providing any extra goodies on your first launch of the game) and come with a promise from GOG that any stability issues that arise as decades pass and operating systems change will be addressed in future patches.

That may just come into play given that Tango Gameworks would be closed right now if Xbox's sudden closure of the studio hadn't been canceled out with an acquisition by PUBG owner Krafton. It's worth noting that the game still appears to be published by Bethesda Softworks, so if you're trying to avoid Microsoft products for any genocide-related reasons, you'll have to weigh that as a consideration.

As for Ghostwire itself, it proved surprisingly popular with over 6 million players . We called it a great game that Elden Ring overshadowed around release alongside the quietly adored Teardown and Sifu. Like its left-field follow-up Hi-Fi Rush, Ghostwire seemed to hit pretty hard for the cult it attracted.
