From Crypto Infrastructure to Global Finance: Meru's Expansion into 132+ Countries

Meru has grown from a stablecoin-focused crypto platform into a global financial ecosystem spanning 132+ countries, now offering digital dollars, international transfers, DeFi tools, and US stock access — with self-custody assets surpassing $1.5 billion.

The infrastructure built up around cryptocurrencies in recent years is taking on an increasingly concrete role within the financial system. Stablecoins, blockchain, and self-custody solutions are used to buy and trade digital assets, and they are also becoming the technological foundation for services aimed at payments, investments, and international money transfers.

Meru's evolution reflects this shift. Founded four years ago with the goal of using technology to reduce some of the barriers present in traditional financial systems, the company began its journey by focusing on crypto infrastructure, and stablecoins. From that initial foundation, a broader ecosystem has emerged, now accessible in more than 132 countries and geared toward connecting different financial tools within a single platform.

Stablecoins played a central role in the first phase of Meru's development. These digital assets, generally pegged to the value of currencies such as the US dollar, make it possible to transfer funds across blockchain networks while limiting the volatility associated with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ether.

The ability to use digital dollars that can be transferred across different markets has opened up new possibilities, especially for cross-border operations. Traditional bank transfers can involve multiple intermediaries, variable fees, and several days to complete. Stablecoin-based infrastructure, by contrast, makes it possible to build services that operate without interruption and are less dependent on the hours or banking circuits of any single country.
