Football Manager 27 Will Officially be Free To Play Until November 3

Sega and Sports Interactive are making Football Manager 27 completely free-to-play at launch on PC for a limited time, from October 29 at 1pm EST to November 3 at 1pm EST.

“Making an annual title free to play with all game modes available is believed to be an industry first and is a move that continues Sports Interactive’s efforts to support its community of players,” the announcement reads (via VGC). “Now, for this year, fans worldwide can get hands-on with FM27’s Launch Preview without any upfront cost.”

Think of it almost like an unrestricted demo. You get access to the entire game at no charge for five days, and if you enjoy it, you can buy Football Manager 27 to keep playing from where you left off. Indeed, as explained in the official FAQ, "all modes, features, and areas of FM27 are available in the free play period and there is no limit to the time or progress you can log."

Considering the reception to Football Manager 26, which launched last year to 'Mostly Negative' reviews after a two-year wait, becoming one of the worst-reviewed games in Steam history, it appears that Sega and Sports Interactive are trying to win players back with a show of good faith. This free window is essentially a grace period for the community to dip their toes back into the series without opening up their wallets to see if the latest entry makes up for the missteps of FM26.

Negative reviews are still pouring in for Football Manager 26, with many slamming the lack of updates and sheer amount of bugs, urging others to buy FM24 instead.
