Fallout: New Vegas has received a major fan-made RTX Remix overhaul that brings full path tracing, modern upscaling, and an entirely new renderer to the Mojave. As Bethesda's upcoming remaster of Fallout: New Vegas takes shape, the original 2010 game may have just gotten one of its biggest visual upgrades yet.
Nvidia's RTX Remix has already given modders a powerful way to modernize older PC games, adding features like path-traced lighting, physically based materials, and modern upscaling without rebuilding the games themselves. Projects like Portal with RTX and Half-Life 2 RTX have demonstrated what the technology can do, but a sprawling RPG like New Vegas presents a much bigger challenge. Modder Kim2091 reportedly spent months heavily modifying RTX Remix specifically for New Vegas, including building a custom wrapper and NVSE plugin that feed the game's scene directly into the new renderer. Ultimately, New Vegas is the kind of sprawling, heavily modded RPG that shows just how ambitious these community remasters are starting to become.
A new mod for Fallout: New Vegas looks to implement a major graphical overhaul, complete with path tracing, for the iconic 15-year-old RPG.
Officially titled New Vegas RTX , developer Kim2091's mod brings full path tracing to the Mojave, turning the sun, moon, lamps, fires, neon signs, muzzle flashes, and even the player's Pip-Boy into real light sources. Unlike the original's lighting system, light now bounces naturally around environments, shadows soften, and reflections can show objects outside the player's immediate view. The overhaul also adds a physically based sky with volumetric clouds and changing weather, path-traced water with ripples and underwater caustics, parallax support for compatible texture packs, and much darker nighttime conditions.
