Exclusive: See Johnny Depp’s Transformation Into Ebenezer Scrooge | IGN Fall Fan Fest 2026

Johnny Depp’s take on the classic Christmas Carol story arrives next month, but we have an exclusive look at his transformation into the iconic Ebenezer Scrooge just in time for IGN Fan Fest.

Depp stars in the upcoming film Ebenezer and, as you can see in the exclusive video below, he underwent extensive makeup and prosthetic work for the role.

“I’ll be honest, the first time I saw him in full makeup I did not recognize him,” says Depp’s co-star Trammell Tillman, who plays the Ghost of Christmas Present. “Johnny was really excited to play Scrooge in his own way.

“Johnny really embraces the makeup process,” says Barrie Gower, Prosthetic Designer on the film. “He’s suggesting things like moles. He wanted his chin a little longer, anything that we can add to the character.”

In addition to a brand-new look at the movie, we can exclusively reveal a new poster for Ebenezer, which you can see below. The image showcases an up-close look at Depp’s Scrooge, along with Tillman’s Ghost of Christmas Present, the Ghost of Christmas Future (Robert Strange), and the Ghost of Christmas Past (Andrea Riseborough).

Depp’s co-stars on the film say the actor, known for transforming himself for roles like Pirates of the Caribbean’s Captain Jack Sparrow and Alice in Wonderland’s Mad Hatter, relished the opportunity to tackle character.

“I think he brings something unique to everything he does,” says Rupert Grint, who plays Bob Cratchit in the film.
