Weapons in Phantom Blade Zero can be upgraded to make them more powerful. However, there is another way to enhance them even further and unlock new techniques for all Phantom Edges and weapons: Soul Tempering. After reaching Myst's Tavern in Pangzhen, players can talk to Myst, who introduces them to the process.

Soul Tempering requires special materials found throughout the game. Some can be acquired by defeating bosses or completing side quests, while others can simply be found scattered around the world.

Defeat The Puppet Scavenger & Acolyte Hansui at the Crimson Manor.

Inside a chest at Sha-Chi Tower, which unlocks after entering Mirage Estate. Take the right path from the Crimson Forest Sha-Chi Tower Gate Bell.

Given to you by Mu Xiaokui at the top of Sha-Chi Tower.

Given to you by Jade Dancer after sparring with her at the top of Sha-Chi Tower.

Defeat Jade Dancer, Young Mistress's Guardian & Iron Fiend, Young Mistress's Guardian.

Obtain it from Child of Insight during the Four Fierce Axes quest.

Check the furnace east of Green Serpent House Bell. You will need to go through the back area near the ladder that takes you through the cave.

Purchase it from Quick Hand Zhang or the Store at a Bell.

Use Illusory Pipa at the building near the Marketplace and open the chest upstairs.

Find all the Memory Flowers dropped by the NPCs who help you and later turn into enemies.
