Dragon Ball Z is one of the greatest anime of all time. An adaptation of Volumes 17 through 42 of Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga, DBZ redefined what it meant to be a shonen anime while influencing genres and mediums worldwide. Although Dragon Ball Z is best known as an anime these days, the series had its fair share of movies while Toei was still adapting Toriyama's masterpiece.
The Dragon Ball Z films often varied in quality, but the best of the best were as good as anything Akira Toriyama came up with himself. The greatest DBZ movies in the series stand alongside the anime's greatest sagas, offering everything fans love most about the original manga and anime.
Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan gets a bad rep these days, but the movie has aged better than most films in the series. The first Broly movie was the only feature-length Dragon Ball Z movie before Battle of Gods, and its artistic ambition extends well beyond its story. This is one of the best directed movies in the series, featuring amazingly intense fight choreography, beautiful shot composition, and striking coloring.
While Dragon Ball Super: Broly is a straightforward improvement over The Legendary Super Saiyan , there's something to appreciate about DBZ Movie 8's more epic take on Broly.
