Doom Composer Mick Gordon Contributes New Track to Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2

Auroch Digital and Big Fan Games have confirmed award-winning composer Mick Gordon has contributed a new track to its upcoming ’90s-inspired boomer shooter Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2.

The first taste of the original track can be heard behind today’s new release date trailer for Boltgun 2, which is blasting its way onto PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 14. It was additionally confirmed Boltgun 2 will also be coming to Switch 2 “shortly after” its debut on other platforms. The trailer showcases the first footage of the game’s chief antagonist, Vashtorr the Arkifane – described as the “daemonic demigod of inventors, engineers, scientists, and artisans.”

IGN’s latest preview of Boltgun 2 found it “brings the grimy, oppressive reality of the 42nd Millennium to life with a readable, pixelated style that evokes the essence of it in a way that even the most hyperrealistic renditions like Space Marine 2 struggle to match”, and that it “feels like undiluted 40K.”

Mick Gordon’s soundtracks for both 2016’s Doom and Doom Eternal are the stuff of legend, although they ultimately culminated in a very public feud involving Gordon and Doom Eternal executive producer Marty Stratton.

Despite this, however, it was announced earlier this month that Gordon will be performing the Doom 2016 soundtrack live at UK-based tech-metal and prog music festival RADAR 2027. While Gordon performed a medley of Doom tracks at The Game Awards 2016, RADAR 2027 will otherwise mark the first time the soundtrack has been performed in a live environment like this.
