Demon Slayer Creator Gotouge Unveils The Rarest Power In The Series

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 - Akaza's Return became the most successful Japanese movie of all time, and the reason for its success is quite evident. The movie featured an exciting battle against Upper Rank Three Akaza, which saw the involvement of Water Hashira Giyu and Tanjiro.

Akaza posed a massive threat, especially with his Compass Needle Blood Demon Art. With it, he proved to be an indomitable force. It was only through Tanjiro unlocking a rare Demon Slayer ability that he was able to make a dent and push the fight forward. This rare ability that Gotouge finally unveiled is known as the Selfless State, and only three Demon Slayers have ever unlocked it: Tanjiro, Tanjuro, and Yoriichi, making it the rarest of all powers in the world.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 officially made its debut in Japanese theaters in July 2025. The movie went international just one month later, and finally, in 2026, it was brought to streaming services. On Crunchyroll, it started streaming in July 2026, and more recently, Netflix officially released it on September 28, 2026. This new streaming release has allowed us all to rewatch the movie and pay more attention to the intricate power system of the story crafted by Koyoharu Gotouge. The new release of Infinity Castle makes it quite clear that among all the abilities seen in the story, the rarest of them all is the Selfless State.

As seen in the movie, Tanjiro and Giyu were grossly outmatched in battle against the Upper Rank 3 Akaza.
