It's been only a few weeks since Spike Chunsoft officially confirmed that Danganronpa 2x2's mysterious student that was leaked previously would officially be in the game. Announced during the September Nintendo Direct, the character lovingly nicknamed "John Danganronpa" by the fandom exploded in popularity, spawning countless more memes and fan art after the reveal.

While we still don't know the full extent of what role the character will play in the story, the official SpikeChunsoft account on X has just revealed the identity of the character "John Danganronpa," finally offering an official name for the previously unknown student.

Although the John Danganronpa nickname will likely stick around in the fandom for a long time, the previously unknown student has been officially named Sakutaro Higashi, who will be voiced by Griffin Burns when 2x2 releases on January 14, 2027.

The only other detail we know about the new character is that Sakutaro will be an exclusive addition to Danganronpa 2x2's new story mode, as Griffin describes them as "one of the high school students who get dragged into the class trial during the game's Slayhem mode."

Unfortunately, aside from these two facts, we still know painfully little about the new student, as the voice actor teased that we'll have to wait and see until the full release to even know what Sakutaro Higashi's ultimate talent is.

While a confirmation like this would normally shut down most character theories by telling us that it's a brand-new student, the confirmation has only added even more speculation on whether they will replace Chiaki or who Sakutaro could really be underneath, given the unique setting of the game.
