The bar for a good enough gaming mic is pretty low these days. Plenty of gaming headsets ship with totally serviceable mics off the bat, and it's hard to recommend a good deal of standalone gaming USB microphones because, beyond the RGB lights and cool-factor markup, they offer too small a quality bump for the price. Yet after spending some time with the Corsair Voxara, the company's first-ever premium USB condenser microphone, I can't help but be impressed. For a first attempt at a gaming mic at "studio quality," this is a stylish and shockingly strong performer that does a lot to earn its price point.
It's also a very modern offering, as the Corsair Voxara largely makes its case by pairing substantial Corsair hardware with Elgato's Wave Link 3.0 software and capitalizing on the increasing prevalence of gaming and streaming tools. After a week of daily use and testing in an untreated home office, that's actually what has earned the Voxara a permanent spot on my desk. It may not compete well against more professional studio microphones, but it doesn't really need to; Corsair's goal was to push the upper limits of what a gaming microphone can offer at this price point, and by that metric, it largely succeeds.
Frankly, the unboxing process is rather to the point, but simplicity here is certainly no crime. The essentials are all here, and two thread adapters stand as a more thoughtful inclusion, since the Voxara's native 5/8" thread means it should fit nearly any boom arm without a trip to the store.
