At the forefront of Black Clover is a boy born with no mana in a world that exclusively revolves around magic. This boy is Asta, and despite the tough challenge laid out to him by fate, he manages to overcome it all and become the strongest Wizard King of all time.
Asta rose to power primarily thanks to his overwhelming physical strength honed over years of grueling training, but most importantly, by his acquisition of the Five Clover Grimoire that hosts a low-ranking Devil known as Liebe and grants him the power of anti-magic. Anti-magic allows Asta to cut through any mana-based ability, and by using anti-magic to coat his body, he is also able to tap into powerful transformations. These transformations increase his anti-magic output and make him an unstoppable force. As the story goes on, he unlocks quite a few powerful transformations.
The very first transformation Asta has ever achieved in Black Clover is the most rudimentary one, and it is known as Black Asta. First acquired in episode 63 in the battle against Ladros, Asta tapped into this form after the Witch Queen Ursula removed all limiters on his body and allowed him to go all out.
When in Black Asta form, our protagonist is able to channel anti-magic throughout his body for the first time . He grows some devilish features, like one horn and one black wing, and is coated in patches of black anti-magic. Black Asta thus acquires the ability to fly, and his speed and strength increase.
