Bethesda Officially Comments on Fallout 5 Gameplay Change

The wait for Fallout 5 has been a long one, but Bethesda is already making some important decisions about how its next trip to the wasteland will look and play. The last single-player mainline entry, Fallout 4, arrived back in 2015, and quite a bit has changed in the gaming industry since then. Fortunately, the company isn't planning to build its next post-apocalyptic RPG using the same technology that powered Bethesda's classic games.

One of the biggest questions surrounding Fallout 5 is how much of a leap it will make over previous entries. Bethesda's RPGs have always been about freedom, but the technology behind those experiences has also faced plenty of criticism over the years. With Fallout 5, Bethesda is looking to improve that technology while keeping the features that have made its games so popular.

Fans of the Fallout franchise can look forward to the release of Raven Rock, which is set to release next year.

Bethesda has confirmed that Fallout 5 will use Creation Engine 3, the latest version of the studio's proprietary game engine. Speaking with Windows Central, Bethesda's Todd Howard explained that the technology is about much more than improved graphics, with Bethesda placing considerable emphasis on the tools and systems used to build its massive open-world RPGs. According to Howard, those systems are particularly important when the development team comes up with ambitious ideas:

our designers ask for so much crazy stuff, and our tech team finds a way to do it.
