Animal Crossing’s Biggest Competitor Officially Launches in December

After months of silence about its upcoming cozy life-sim HoYoverse finally set a Petit Planet release date. Petit Planet launches Dec. 4 for PC and mobile devices, with pre-load starting on Dec. 1; HoYoverse hasn't announced plans to launch Petit Planet on consoles yet.

The news comes almost a year after the first Petit Planet beta, and HoYoverse announced it alongside a new trailer highlighting the extensive prep work involved in planning a picnic for the locals.

It's a good excuse to show off just how much more expansive Petit Planet promises to be compared to that initial beta. The trailer shows off a lot more of the game's customization options, which, thankfully, cover a broad variety of styles. The test version skewed heavily toward floaty, airy, feminine clothing, which is fine, but a bit limited in scope. Here, we see sweaters, cargo pants, sweatshirts stylishly tied around the waist, T-shirts, dresses of a less ethereal variety, aviator outfits, trenchoats, boots that Doc Martens wearers would feel right at home in, Mary Janes — pretty much any look you could hope for.

The trailer also shows a player character fishing and farming in a heavily-but-tastefully terraformed village. They diverted a river to run through the middle of it, which, apart from adding to the bucolic charm, makes for convenient fishing. And there's a big agricultural patch near some of the homes where impossibly gigantic ears of corn grow. Exterior customization seemed like a big draw during the initial test version, and it looks like HoYoverse has only expanded the possibilities since then.
