Alien Isolation 2's Xenomorph will "hunt you more aggressively," says lead dev

2014's Alien: Isolation remains one of the scariest, most anxiety inducing games I've ever played, in large part because of its intelligent, highly adaptive Xenomorph, which pursues you relentlessly in the cramped corridors of the main campaign. The thought of an even smarter, more aggressive stalker in Alien: Isolation 2 has haunted me since the sequel was announced a few months back, and now that assumption has been explicitly confirmed in detail by some of the lead developers working on the game. Yes, it's true, Alien: Isolation 2's Xenomorph will make the first game's alien seem like child's play, according to the developers.

One of the sequel's big evolutions from the first game are new outdoor environments. The first Alien: Isolation takes place entirely from within the Sevastopol space station, but the sequel will have some outdoor sequences where weather events like rain and hail will present their own unique challenges. And yes, the alien will follow you outside too and utilize changes in weather to its advantage.

According to art director Ana Sopikova, you'll be tangling with the Xenomorph in outside areas that are "maybe 10 times bigger" than the claustrophobic Sevastopol Station. That's not a huge surprise given the space station's intentionally tight explorable rooms, but I am anxiously curious to see how the Xenomorph moves in more open environments. "Now, it will be even more intelligent, it will react to the player better, it will react to all the new items, gadgets, and tools," says Sopikova.
