After 10 Years, Boruto Announces Official Death Of The Hokage Title

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 38 was released officially on October 20, 2026, as part of the month's V-Jump Issue. This chapter was significant when it comes to the overarching lore of the Hokage position.

For years, the Hokage stood tall as the most exalted position in the entirety of the Naruto series. The Hokage is the ruler of Konoha who leads the village forward and protects all its citizens. In terms of power and authority, the Hokage is usually unrivaled. However, in the latest Boruto: Two Blue Vortex release, both the power and the authority of this figure are being challenged. With Shikamaru Nara now confirmed to be ousted from the position of Hokage, the next leader of the village is none other than Konohamaru Sarutobi. His rise to this position essentially marks the spiritual death of the Hokage forever.

The Hokage is the leader and the protector of the village of Konoha, and this was established long ago when Hashirama and Madara joined hands to create Konoha in the first place. Hashirama and Madara's collaboration led to the birth of the strongest shinobi village of all time, and other countries followed suit and established ninja villages of their own in the process.

When it comes to Konoha specifically, each Hokage carried tremendous strength, but the most important asset of a Hokage was the Will of Fire. Hashirama carried the Will of Fire and passed it on to Tobirama, who passed it on to Hiruzen Sarutobi. It was later given to Minato Namikaze.
