Platoons were added back in Battlefield 3. They functioned essentially as MMO-style clans, helping players form communities and keep track of one another across larger groups than just their immediate party. EA confirmed the feature would be returning in Battlefield 6 when it dropped its 2026 roadmap back in April. This week, however, it said the feature will stay MIA until 2027.
“Platoons are arriving during Season 5 and will focus on the foundations of forming a social group in Battlefield 6. Players will be able to create or join Platoons of up to 100 members, easily party up with other members, and represent their Platoons with their tags,” the publisher announced earlier this year. “Platoons will also support different join settings with leadership tools to help manage membership. Players who play together with their Platoon will also be able to earn XP bonuses.”
Some fans had previously been worried that the feature might be gone from the franchise forever, alongside a number of other additions to Battlefield 6 the community has been waiting on. Platoons were set to go live in early December alongside a server browser and new map updates. In fact, as recently as October 21, EA was still reiterating that they would arrive in season 5. Yesterday, however, the developers confirmed the feature won’t ship this year after all.
