Star Wars lore has grown infinitely more complex and interesting over the decades since 1977, and that is especially true of how it depicts the Force. After countless movies, TV series, books, games, and more (and that's only including what's still canon), the Force has gone far beyond its traditional portrayal as a binary scale of good and evil, with the Jedi at one end and the Sith on the other. These days, the Star Wars saga is full of Force users who are neither Jedi nor Sith.

What's more, many of these unaffiliated Force users are among the most powerful Force-sensitive beings of any kind anywhere in the Star Wars galaxy, as the following 10 characters make plain. To count as a non-Jedi or non-Sith Force user, a character cannot have been trained by a master of either of these orders (thus excluding Kylo Ren, Grogu, and Asajj Ventress) and cannot have once been a Padawan or Apprentice themselves at any point (like Ahsoka Tano or Maul). Out of those who fit within these criteria, these are the strongest Force-sensitives who aren't Jedi or Sith.

Though Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi's duel in Revenge of the Sith is a Star Wars highlight, the longest lightsaber fight isn't necessarily the best one.

Maz Kanata is easily one of the Sequel Trilogy 's biggest question marks because the films reveal so little about who she is, despite promising to spill the answers eventually (Maz never did tell Rey how she got a hold of Luke's lightsaber).
