Autonomous delivery robot maker Ottonomy has raised about Rs 40 crore or $4.2 million in a post-seed funding round led by Japan-based venture capital firm Enrission India Capital.
The startup will use the raised capital to fund its global expansion across healthcare and industrial automation, where demand for autonomous logistics is rising because of workforce shortages.
Enrission invested through its Enrission SP26 India investment fund, the firm said in an announcement.
Harsh Deodhar, principal at Enrission, said labour shortages were reshaping healthcare and industry, with skilled hospital staff spending too much of their time moving supplies instead of caring for patients.
Founded in 2020 by Ritukar Vijay, his college mate Hardik Sharma, and former colleagues Pradyot Korupolu and Ashish Gupta, Ottonomy is headquartered in California. However, most of its workforce of over 60 employees is based in Delhi NCR, while the startup operates a production facility in Noida.
The startup's main product is Ottobot, a robot that carries goods across both indoor and outdoor spaces without a human operator. While most delivery robots are built to work either indoors or outdoors, Ottobot uses the startup's own Contextual AI to keep working as it moves between the two.
The robots go along corridors, call elevators and pass through access-controlled doors before heading outdoors to the next building. Notably, they combine video recognition, ultrasonic sensors and edge computing to navigate indoors where GPS signals do not reach, and connect to elevator controls through an API.
