Viraasat, an Indian luxury artefacts and collectibles brand founded by Paranjay Agarwal and Tiyasha Das, has raised an undisclosed amount in an angel funding from Sumit Gupta, co-founder and CEO of crypto exchange CoinDCX.
Viraasat makes limited-edition collector's pieces based on Indian history and mythology. The brand said the fresh capital will support its expansion into new collections and collectible categories, with an emphasis on original design, craftsmanship and researched storytelling.
"India has a 7,000-year-old civilization with stories, epics and heritage that deserve to be celebrated and experienced beyond textbooks and screens," Gupta said.
"The team's vision of bringing our history and mythology to life through beautifully crafted artefacts that can adorn our living spaces resonated deeply with me. I'm delighted to back the team as they build a venture that takes our rich cultural heritage to a wider audience in India and the world," he added.
Viraasat has released two products so far. Its flagship, Battle of Kurukshetra, is a sculptural chess artefact inspired by the Mahabharata. The brand claims its Founders' Edition of 100 pieces sold out within four months.
Esquire India, which listed the set among sculptural chess sets redefining the game, described it as handmade and hand-painted entirely in India. The two opposing armies are carved as chess pieces in orange and red and set on a glass-topped board over a sculpted diorama base.
The second product, Ramāgaman, marks the return of Rama, Lakshman and Sita to Ayodhya. Its first phase of 100 pieces sold out within a week, the company said.
