The Hartford is bringing its data and artificial intelligence teams under its technology division as the US insurer looks to embed advanced analytics more deeply into its operations and customer services.
Effective 2 November, the insurer’s Data and Artificial Intelligence function will merge into its Technology organisation under chief information officer Shekar Pannala. The restructuring also places Operations alongside Claims under chief claims officer Stephen Deane, while James M. Yanosy will move from his finance leadership role to become chief risk officer.
Founded in 1810, The Hartford provides property and casualty insurance, employee benefits and other financial services to individuals and businesses. The Hartford Financial Services Group is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker HIG and is headquartered in Hartford, Connecticut.
The move puts responsibility for data, AI and technology under a single executive. The Hartford president A. Morris “Mo” Tooker said the alignment would help the company incorporate advanced analytics and emerging technologies into services for customers and distribution partners.
Pannala became CIO in March 2025, having joined The Hartford in 2023 to lead technology for its Property & Casualty businesses. His previous roles include global CIO at Chubb, chief technology officer at S&P Global and executive vice president and divisional CIO for asset servicing technology at BNY Mellon.
The operational changes extend beyond technology. Deane, who returned to The Hartford in November 2023 after leading claims for Liberty Mutual Insurance’s Global Risk Solutions business in North America, will oversee both Claims and Operations. The company said the closer alignment is intended to improve coordination across the customer experience.
