Third largest public sector lender Punjab National Bank (PNB) has settled three claims amounting to Rs 43 lakh following complaints of alleged financial irregularities involving certain fixed deposit and savings bank accounts at its Greater Noida branch, the bank said in a statement on Thursday. The bank said it has taken “serious cognisance” of the complaints and is examining the matter on priority, while extending full cooperation to the authorities concerned. PNB said it is taking necessary steps to verify the facts, assess the extent of the reported discrepancies and address the concerns of affected customers. The bank also assured customers that “all genuine claims will be honoured”.
The development comes after complaints from customers alleging that funds were withdrawn or transferred from their savings and fixed deposit accounts without their authorisation. The total amount involved is being examined by the bank and authorities. PNB said it maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards fraud, financial irregularities and misconduct, and that stern action will be taken against those found responsible in accordance with applicable rules and procedures. The bank added that it remains committed to safeguarding customer interests and strengthening its internal controls and monitoring mechanisms to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
