OCBC has partnered with Ant International to launch a tokenised deposit solution for corporate treasury management and liquidity transfers between Singapore and Malaysia.
The service allows the fintech company to move Singapore and US dollar liquidity across borders outside traditional banking hours.
Tokenised deposits function as digital representations of commercial bank deposits on a distributed ledger.
Using blockchain technology, these transfers create an immutable audit trail that reduces manual reconciliation and improves operational efficiency for corporate treasurers.
The solution is powered by Ant International’s WhaleRTP platform, which connects blockchain assets from various financial institutions.
This setup allows the company to mobilise its intra-group liquidity continuously. It also reduces some of the constraints associated with batch processing cycles and settlement cut-off times in conventional cross-border fund movements.
In September 2026, the bank completed a cross-border tokenised deposit transaction in US dollars on Swift’s ledger with Citibank.
During the same month, OCBC and two other local banks also completed domestic tokenised deposit transactions in Singapore dollars on Swift’s ledger.
In April 2026, OCBC and its asset management arm Lion Global Investors launched a tokenised physical gold fund on a public blockchain.
Carmen Chan, Deputy Head of Global Transaction Banking at OCBC, said the solution shows how tokenisation is moving beyond experimentation. She added that it can deliver tangible value for working capital management at scale.
“By combining OCBC’s blockchain capabilities and transaction banking expertise with Ant International’s Whale platform, we are enabling businesses to manage liquidity with greater speed, visibility and efficiency,”
