Northstar Security has launched publicly with $7m in seed capital led by Wing Venture Capital, aiming to give defenders the joined-up context they have long lacked.
Wing Venture Capital headed the round, with MVP and Outliers also investing. Cybersecurity veterans Gerhard Eschelbeck, Renaud Deraison and Justin Somaini joined as individual backers. Northstar plans to put the capital towards building out its product, growing its headcount and scaling its commercial operations.
The startup is targeting a persistent problem. Although enterprises have poured billions into tools that flag threats, weak points and configuration errors, the resulting information sits in separate systems. An unpatched flaw, an unmanaged laptop or an account with excessive permissions might each look minor on its own, yet together they can open a serious path to critical business systems.
Spotting these so-called toxic combinations forces analysts to gather evidence from numerous tools, trace connections, judge business consequences and organise remediation, a process that can stretch for hours.
Northstar tackles this with a live Security Context Graph that charts the links between assets, identities, vulnerabilities, applications and business systems. Both people and AI agents work from this common picture, allowing the platform to answer intricate questions, surface concealed exposures and run autonomous remediation, with human sign-off where needed.
The company offers a practical example: a corporate laptop lacking endpoint protection. Establishing its owner, its system access and its risk level could normally mean working through six separate tools.
Using Northstar, an analyst can pose these questions in plain language and might learn that the device belongs to a privileged employee with access to a critical payroll system.
