Mochatrade raises $6m to open US stocks to Indian traders

Mochatrade, a New York-based platform offering tokenised US equities to traders in India, has reportedly closed a $6m seed round as it looks to give Indian retail investors leveraged, round-the-clock exposure to American stocks using rupees.

CoinFund led the investment, with Coinbase Ventures, Pioneer Fund, Y Combinator and Nicky Montana also taking part, according to a report from Dealroom.

Users of the platform can take long or short positions of up to 50x leverage on contracts tied to US stock tokens, with all margin held in Indian rupees. Before a trade is confirmed, the platform displays both the margin required and the square-off level.

Unlike conventional exchanges, the tokens can be bought and sold at any hour, every day of the year. This addresses a timing problem for Indian investors, since regular US market sessions take place during the Indian evening.

Funding an account relies on India’s UPI payment system. Deposits reach a user’s balance within seconds, and withdrawals are processed on the same day, with money moving in rupees in both directions.

Mochatrade operates as a trading venue for US stock tokens aimed specifically at the Indian market. It holds registration with FIU-IND as a Virtual Digital Asset Service Provider, under registration number VA00049752.

Traders also get access to TradingView charting, company fundamentals and analyst consensus data, with orders processed on low-latency infrastructure.
