Mitchell expands AI estimating to collision repairers

Automotive technology provider Mitchell has expanded its AI-powered vehicle damage estimating software to collision repair businesses, with Crash Champions becoming the first multi-site operator to deploy the technology across its US network of more than 650 repair centres.

The expansion brings Mitchell’s Intelligent Estimating solution beyond its established insurer customer base, making it available to multi-site operators and independent collision repair centres across the US and Canada.

The technology analyses photographs of damaged vehicles to generate preliminary repair estimates within minutes. By accelerating the initial appraisal process, Mitchell aims to help repair businesses improve productivity and deliver more consistent estimates.

Crash Champions has introduced the solution across more than 650 locations spanning 38 states and Washington, D.C. The deployment builds on an existing relationship between the two companies, which have been working together to modernise vehicle claims handling and improve customer experiences.

Available as an add-on to Mitchell Cloud Estimating, Intelligent Estimating combines artificial intelligence with the company’s cloud infrastructure, proprietary data and intellectual property.

After photographs of vehicle damage are uploaded, the system generates an initial repair appraisal for estimators to review, amend and submit. This keeps repair professionals in control of the final estimate while reducing the manual work involved in preliminary assessments.

Mitchell says the technology also helps standardise repair planning across teams, improving consistency between estimates while allowing experienced appraisers to focus on more complex repair requirements.

Part of Enlyte, Mitchell develops cloud-based software for insurance carriers, collision repair businesses and vehicle manufacturers. More than 20,000 organisations use its technology to manage claims and support vehicle repairs.
