The post was adapted from Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian’s keynote address at Gemini at Work 2026.

The universal Gemini agent can answer questions, handle knowledge work, create images and media, and write and run code, according to the post.

Gemini agent works inside Gmail, Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Chat and Calendar; can be accessed from any device and any channel; carries the same memory, skills and controls it has everywhere else; and delivers actionable operational insights in response to plain-language questions, the post said.

The agent is secured and governed through identity and policy management, authorization and permission controls, secure sandboxing and network gateways. It enables cost controls via multi-model orchestration, Smart Routing and real-time spend caps, per the post.

Gemini agent can securely connect to software run by the user’s company as well as any Model Context Protocol (MCP) server; can use custom skills added by the user as well as the skills it already has; and learns from each interaction with the user, according to the post.
