Fireblocks has denied reports that Visa is in late-stage discussions to acquire the company for approximately US$2.5 billion.
According to Axios, which cited multiple unnamed sources, the two companies were in advanced talks over a potential acquisition.
“We are aware of the rumors about a possible acquisition of Fireblocks by Visa. This is news to us, and not true at present time,”
The reported US$2.5 billion acquisition price would represent a significant decline from Fireblocks’ previous valuation.
In January 2022, the company raised US$550 million in a funding round that valued it at US$8 billion.
Speculation about a potential sale had circulated for three to four weeks before the Axios report, according to CoinDesk.
Unnamed sources also identified US-listed cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase Global as another possible buyer.
However, Coinbase subsequently denied any involvement in a potential transaction after CoinDesk published its report.
