Finastra, the financial services software provider, has revealed that BDO Unibank, one of the largest universal banks in the Philippines, has upgraded its payments infrastructure using the Global PAYplus (GPP) platform.
The deployment is designed to help BDO manage rising transaction volumes, strengthen operational resilience and improve interoperability across the wider payments ecosystem. The bank has rolled out GPP’s high-value and mass-payments functionality, creating a scalable infrastructure for its existing and future payment requirements.
BDO now uses the platform for Swift and inbound PESONet processing, making it the largest commercial bank in the Philippines to adopt Global PAYplus.
The deployment introduces greater automation and configurable, rule-based payment processing, while supporting operational efficiency across the bank’s payments activity. It also gives BDO greater flexibility to respond to changing industry standards, including ISO 20022, and connect with new domestic and cross-border payment networks as they become available.
The move reflects a broader shift towards payment hubs that can bring multiple payment rails together through a single infrastructure layer. Finastra said cloud-native and API-enabled architecture, ISO 20022 compatibility and intelligent operations are increasingly becoming important components of payments infrastructure as banks look to improve efficiency and bring new services to market more quickly.
BDO serves retail, commercial and institutional customers across the Philippines with a range of banking and financial services. The bank also provides payment distribution capabilities into the Philippine market for correspondent banks and FinTech partners. Finastra develops software for financial services firms, with Global PAYplus serving as its payments processing platform for banks with complex requirements.
